Birth

The Dangun myth, and the beginning of fragrance

In the beginning, there was waiting

The first story of the Korean people begins not with the birth of a human, but with a story of waiting. When the bear and the tiger asked to become human, heaven did not grant them an easy path. It gave them only mugwort, garlic, and a span of time to endure in darkness.

The tiger could not bear that time, and left the cave. Only Ungnyeo passed through the darkness and the waiting to the very end, and at last became human. The first birth ever inscribed upon this land was achieved this way — upon time that was never rushed.

Alcohol shaped from the ingredients of myth

We take these very ingredients from the myth and use them to age our alcohol. Just as the bear did, we too leave these ingredients in long darkness and time. We do not rush, we do not substitute — we only wait.

The aged alcohol completed this way is no mere ingredient for fragrance. It is a vessel that holds, exactly as it is, the oldest birth story of this land. Composing fragrance becomes, in that moment, an act of living the myth again.

Only by passing through darkness does it become fragrance

Just as the time in the cave unfolded, our aging too takes place quietly, where no light reaches. Through that unseen span of time, the plants slowly change their grain, and the alcohol slowly transforms into a vessel of fragrance.

This is not something a human hand can complete. All the perfumer can do is, like Ungnyeo in the myth, faithfully keep and wait out that time. And at the end of that waiting, fragrance is finally born.

A sacred birth, blooming again

The Dangun myth is the story of heaven and earth meeting to give birth to a person, and at the same time, it is this land's own belief that waiting gives birth to wonder. We have carried that belief into fragrance.

What is held within the bottle is not simply scent. It is the mystery of the very first birth upon this land — the moment time meets patience and becomes sacred. Every fragrance we compose is, in this way, born again from myth.

EPISODE II

Hwarang — Full Bloom (滿開)

Blooming after long endurance

To remain unbroken, one governs oneself

The young men of Silla learned to govern their minds before they ever took up a sword. They trained their bodies wandering mountains and rivers, and forged their character through loyalty among friends. For the Hwarang, strength was not something born within — it was something built slowly, through discipline of the self.

The time when restraint becomes fragrance

We carry this same spirit into the time of aging. Not rushing, not faltering, enduring the appointed time in full — this is the way the Hwarang governed themselves, and the way we govern our alcohol.

What has not passed through a time of endurance can never come into full bloom. The long patience by which plants slowly refine their own grain is the only path by which fragrance can finally bloom.

A firmness hidden within clarity

The Hwarang's grace lay in the coexistence of softness and strength. Our fragrance is the same. Its first moment brushes past with clarity, but beneath it lies a firm grain, laid down by long aging. Not light as something merely passing, not heavy as something merely lingering — that balance can never be gained in a short span of time.

Full bloom belongs to the one who waited longest

A flower does not bloom simply because one is in a hurry. Only what has fully passed through a time of patience earns the name of full bloom. The fragrance we craft is, in this way, a moment of blooming granted only to the one who has waited the longest.

EPISODE III

Celadon — Bisaek (翡色)

A single color reached after a thousand moments of time

Not chance, but countless repetition

The artisans of Goryeo knelt before the kiln again and again. If even one thing was off — the clay, the glaze, the temperature of the fire — the color they sought would never be born. That quiet jade-green hue found nowhere else in the world could only be reached after countless failures and immeasurable waiting.

Repeated aging, a step toward completion

Our aging, too, is never completed in a single attempt. As the seasons turn and time accumulates, we watch, wait, and check again and again. Just as bisaek was no accident, our fragrance too is never obtained by chance.

What is not forgotten, even without strength

The beauty of bisaek never lay in splendor. A quiet presence that is nonetheless never forgotten — this was the aesthetic Goryeo left to the world. The fragrance we craft, too, chooses to be remembered not for intensity, but for how long its quiet presence lingers.

Like a single color, a single fragrance

Like the single shade of bisaek finally reached after thousands of firings, our fragrance too is a single result reached only after the layering of countless spans of time. It is a color that nothing else can replace — one that only this land, and this time, could ever produce.

EPISODE IV

The Scholar — Ink-Scent (墨香)

The time ink dries, the time the mind clears

Before lifting the brush, one grinds the ink

The Joseon scholar ground ink before ever writing a word. That ink — soot from pine trees, gathered and bound over a long span of time — took time to grind against the inkstone, and that time was never wasted. As the ink was ground, the mind settled, distractions cleared, and only then was one truly ready to write.

The time of grinding becomes fragrance

We carry this same spirit forward. Gathering plants, binding them within time, aging them to form the grain of fragrance — our way is no different from the hand of the scholar shaping his ink. To one who rushes, neither the scent of ink nor our fragrance will ever be granted.

What is restrained runs deepest

The scholar's study held no lavish ornament. Yet the ink-scent that rose within that restraint lingered deeper and longer than any strong perfume. Our fragrance, too, does not announce itself loudly. A depth felt only as one draws closer — that is the standing we aspire to.

A fragrance completed through purity

Like the composed mind of one grinding ink before writing, our fragrance too is completed within purity. Not splendor, but devotion; not strength, but depth — this is the aesthetic the scholar left behind, and the spirit of fragrance we seek to carry forward.
